Foot Pain & Problem

Deformed and painful toes

Condition

This pain and deformation is mainly seen among elderly people. The bones of second toe and third toe are thickened or in some cases, bent because of fatigue fractures. The fatigue fractures are intensely painful and the toes swell in situations such as wearing pointed toed shoes. The compressed toes are red and chilblains–like, sometimes numb as well.

Cause

In cases of bunions and imbalanced sole, the toes are not well-grounded while walking, and the big toe pushes the second toe and the second toe pushes third toe, becoming compressed and numbed. The third toe can also be compressed by the little toe side, sandwiched between the second and fourth toes. Please be aware that the third toe can be unknowingly fractured and consequently deform.

Treatment

We recommend first seeing a specialist in case the condition is accompanied by fatigue fractures or is a long-term and extreme bunion (Rheumatism or Heberden related).

For less extreme cases, practicing Kasahara Taping Treatment (in cases with foot pain) is helpful for rebuilding the arch on the sole to enable walking firmly with well-grounded toes.

As a simpler solution, the W supporter (cylindrical type) can be used at home while a bandage and 3-toe socks can be used in combination to go out.

We recommend using the seismic isolation insole (artificial muscle insole) to maintain cushioning in the shoe and to absorb excessive shock and torsion waves.
